A PROMISING young boxer is being given a helping hand on the route to sporting stardom by a Luton solicitors firm.
Jordan Reynolds, 17 from Farley Hill, has been sponsored by Dunstable Road-based Pictons Solicitors.
Sukh Saini, joint managing partner at Pictons said: “We support a number of community activities and charities, and sport is important to us as it unites communities like nothing else. We chose to sponsor Jordan because he is such a star and has great natural talent, commitment and determination.”
The young fighter is now officially the second best amateur welterweight in the country after punching his way to last Saturday’s final of the Junior ABA Championships. His fantastic performance against Isaac McLeod, the World Silver and European Gold champion, brought him to the attention of the GB Squad, who have signed him up for the forthcoming Tri-Nations championship to represent England. The GB Squad is also looking to take him on to the European Championships.
Jordan, who won the Young Hero Community Award and Luton Sportsman of the Year Award in 2011, began boxing just two short years ago, at a difficult time in his life when he was potentially going off the rails. He recalls “I was going down a bad route with gangs and decided to turn my life around before it was too late. I’ve always liked the idea of fighting and once I discovered boxing as a way to release all my energy my life changed. Now I’m always buzzing to go training and I love being in the ring.”
He now gets up at 5.30am every day to train for four hours, before going on to Barnfield College where he is studying to achieve a personal training qualification. He began to channel his energy into boxing at Graham Earl’s Luton gym, then progressed to work with Geoff Glencross in Stevenage and is now training at the top club on the circuit, in London’s West Ham, a gym that has produced a string of world famous names such as Nigel Benn.
