NHS Bedfordshire is reminding people to stock up on basic medications and to order any prescription medication they might need ahead of the bank holiday period.
It has also published details on its website www.bedfordshire.nhs.uk of pharmacy opening times during the bank holidays and information on where people can go for advice or treatment should they need it.
NHS Bedfordshire Medical Director, Dr Ash Paul, said: “Pharmacies are an excellent place to get healthcare advice and we have arranged pharmacy cover throughout the Easter period so that people can continue to use these services.
“I would advise people to stock up on basic medications so that they can treat very minor illnesses and injuries themselves.
“If you are on prescription medication then it is also a good idea to check that you have enough medication to last you through the Easter and bank holiday periods.”
Dr Paul said: “If you need to see a GP when your practice is shut, then you should dial your surgery phone number for details of your local out-of-hours GP service. Please only use A&E services or dial 999 in an emergency.”
In addition to using your local pharmacy you can also call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 or visit their website www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk for health information and advice.
