THE award-winning chief executive of Luton All Women’s Centre is leaving the organisation on Friday.

Sarita Jain, who was appointed three years ago, told the Luton News she was reappraising her life and leaving for a mixture of reasons, some personal.

She said: “I still hope to work in the women’s sector but perhaps in a different way.

“I may freelance. Working at the Women’s Centre is very demanding and much more than five days a week.”

The former Luton Borough Council link manager said she had been connected to the Centre for a long time and was very proud about what had been achieved.

“We’ve created a niche, a strong base in terms of support,” she said. “What we offer is very holistic.

“We work on a one-to-one basis as well as providing counselling and befriending. We’ve started support groups and raised awareness of the various issues women face.

“We’ve gone into schools to talk about domestic abuse.

“And we’ve been very successful in getting funding, in addition to working in partnership with other women’s groups.”

She admitted she would miss being involved in generating ideas and starting projects from scratch.

“I do enjoy looking at problems and trying to find solutions,” she said. “I get a real buzz from seeing women empowered.”

Sarita will be helping celebrate International Women’s Week before she goes.

The Centre is running a series of events culminating at Luton Irish Forum between 6pm and 8pm on Friday when everyone is invited to ‘Learn about cultures through dance.’
