POLICE are appealing for information after two women were injured in a serious collision this morning, (February 23).

The collision happened on Newlands Road in Luton at approximately 12.58pm when a horse and cart was being ridden towards the A1081.

It is believed a white van overtook the horse and cart before the 40 year old rider lost control and was thrown from the cart. She was taken to hospital for treatment to a fractured shoulder.

The passenger, a 19 year old woman, was also thrown from the cart and she has also been taken to hospital for treatment.

The white van driver left the scene without stopping and the officer in charge of this investigation, PC Mark West, is keen to trace the driver.

PC West said: “This collision happened on a busy road with lots of other motorists in the area. I would appeal to the van driver or anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward and speak with the police so we can piece together exactly what happened.”

Anyone with information about the van driver or the collision can contact Bedfordshire Police on 101, in confidence, or text information to 07786 200011.

Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimetoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
