POLICE thwarted an illegal rave set to take place on an industrial estate in Barton in the early hours of Sunday morning after eagle eyed residents rang to complain.
Police began receiving complaints about noise in the area shortly before 2am and, following a search, discovered around 30 people setting up an event in a unit on Barton Industrial Estate off Faldo Road.
They immediately sealed off the entrance to the estate and turned away more revellers who were arriving while colleagues set about locating organisers.
Organisers were told that if they did not leave the site then they would have their expensive sound equipment confiscated.
By 4am all revellers had left and surrounding residents were able to enjoy the rest of their weekend in peace.
Area commander, Supt Neil Wilson, warned police will not tolerate illegal raves, which can present serious health and safety risk to revellers because they are unlicensed and are often associated with drugs.
He said: “The key to disrupting raves is early intervention and we would urge the public to give us any help they can this spring and summer.
“That could include rave details spotted on the internet, or information on posters and flyers.
“Residents may even see convoys of cars circling an area while drivers wait for final directions.
“Organisers of illegal events should be aware that their equipment could be seized and anyone who commits a criminal offence could find themselves being arrested and before the courts.”
Anyone with information about raves can contact police, in confidence, on 01234 841212, Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or send a text to 07786 200011.
