THE athletics track at Stockwood Park was turned into a sea of pink on Saturday for the Cancer Research UK Relay for Life.

More than 40 teams took place in the 24-hour event, which kicked off at 12pm, with those who have battled cancer taking to the track at the start for the Survivors’ Lap.

Luton youngster Kayla Perry, who successfully fought germ cell cancer, led her KK Stars team of friends and family, who have rallied to raise money for the charity.

Her mum, Jo, said: “It was a really great atmosphere, everyone was really friendly and all the teams were chatting to each other.

“We had to have someone on the track at all times and you could run or walk, some people were even kicking a football all the way round.

“I think we’ve raised about £1,000 and they said at the end that the whole event had raised £43,000, which is fantastic.”
