A LUTON shopkeeper has slated police for their “softly softly” approach to a serious assault.

Charles Osa of Divine International Foods in Marsh Road tried to apprehend a young man who had headbutted and kicked one of his customers last Tuesday (May 29).

He said: “Everyone saw me holding him down.

“His jacket came off and there were little packets of what looked like drugs all over the floor.

“I had him on the ground but when the police arrived they said: ‘Leave him, leave him.’

“When I did, he jumped on his bike and rode off.”

Mr Osa added: “It was very traumatic for me, there was blood all over the place.

“Two ladies were attending to the victim and he was unconscious. But the police took it very lightly.”

He claimed the man, regular customer Frank Kofi, was the stepfather of an alleged drug dealer.

Mr Kofi had been threatened by the 22-year-old previously and had narrowly escaped a beating the previous evening: “He called the police but they didn’t take it seriously.

“He could have been killed.

“My job would have been in jeopardy while they investigated. I wouldn’t have been able to feed my family.”

A Bedfordshire police spokesperson said: “The victim has stated he doesn’t want to make a complaint.

“Further enquiries will be made relating to the background of the disagreement and assault.

“All details of the individuals concerned have been taken.”
