BEDFORDSHIRE’S new Lord Lieutenant, Helen Nellis, will be an honoured guest at Luton Hoo for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The historic five star hotel – where the Queen and Prince Philip spent several wedding anniversaries – is one of more than 3,000 official beacon sites nationwide.

The first will be lit by the Queen following a Diamond Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace on Monday June 4.

Luton Hoo will mark the occasion with a champagne reception followed by a three course dinner in the Wernher restaurant.

Guests will be invited on to the terrace afterwards, between 10pm and 10.30pm, to watch the beacon being lit by the lake on the 1,065 acre estate.

> To book for the celebration dinner, which costs £60 a head, call 01582 734437 or visit www.lutonhoo.co.uk
