THE owners of a former Leagrave convent say they have not yet decided what the building’s future will be, despite a sign outside saying it will be turned into flats.
Acre Estates has already successfully applied for the Marsh Road building’s status to be changed from a convent to residential use, and a sign currently outside says that 14 flats will be ‘coming soon’.
The sign prompted one local resident to contact the Herald&Post over concerns a historic building could be lost and that traffic problems in the area could be increased.
He said: “The idea of putting lots of flats on the convent site is horrendous. This junction is very, very busy.”
Yassaran Shah from Acre Estates said the company would “be happy to work with people in the area to see what they want and what would be of benefit to the community”.
She said a pre-application enquiry for flats had been submitted to the council, but was going to be withdrawn, adding: “We have had second thoughts as to what we want to do, it may be a nursery or we may sell the building. But even if it was flats it doesn’t mean we would change anything externally.”
