The bunting was out, flags were waved and the sun shone (well, for most of the time) as Luton celebrated the royal wedding on Friday.

Across the town, people gathered together to party the afternoon away, with food, drink, live music and games for young and old.

At Kent Athletic Club in Tenby Drive, around 100 people enjoyed a party with a barbecue and children’s entertainment. Organiser Maisie Punter said: “Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. It was such a lovely day, I wouldn’t have missed the wedding for the world. It was just absolutely lovely.”

The fun continued in the villages, with 150 people gathering in Toddington’s Conger Lane to celebrate. Bev Markham, who helped organise the bash, said: “It was fantastic, absolutely brilliant. Everyone was in such a good mood after watching the wedding in the morning.

“At one point we had a clap of thunder and a few big rain drops but after that it stayed dry, so we were very lucky.”

The party saw what is believed to have been Conger Lane’s first conga line, live music and the crowning of the road’s own king and queen, Reg and Betty Stapleton.
