SENIOR citizens Brian and Dorothy Horton enjoyed a triple whammy of exciting events last week.

It was Brian’s 74th birthday, they won the top £1,000 prize in Keech Hospice Care’s weekly lottery and were invited to celebrate the lottery’s 15th anniversary with the charity’s staff.

The Arlesey couple have been joint members for five years.

Dorothy said: “Keech does such good work for the community and this is an easy way for us to help.

“I had a premonition we were going to win and I kept looking out for the postman. Lucky for us that premonition came true.

They were presented with their cheque by two of the original lottery team, George Pearce and Paul Denton.

The fundraiser has made almost £6 million for the adult and children’s hospices since its introduction in 1966. More than 11,000 tickets are sold, compared with 3,274 initially.

Paul said: “The lottery was profitable from the start but we never dreamed it would reach such levels.”
