‘SIX-man sound machine’ The Magnets appeared on Comic Relief with a special flashmob to thank sponsors this year.
The acapella group use only their mouths to make music, with Fraser Collins, from Luton, providing the bass and Andy Frost as the vocal percussionist, or beatboxer.
They previously featured in the TMobile welcome back TV ads in a flashmob at Heathrow Airport, and performed on Louie Spence’s Showbusiness TV programme on March 30.
Mr Collins, formerly known as Colin Fraser, said: “We were thrilled when the BBC approached us and asked us to do a film to say thank you to Sainsbury’s, the second biggest sponsors of Comic Relief.”
“We went to the Leamington Spa store dressed as staff.I was a security guard. Then we started singing a medley of thank you songs to the real staff.
“By the end of the day they all knew what was going on so they were joining in to sing to customers too.”
The Magnets were also part of Twitrelief, Twitter’s version of Comic Relief.
They offered tweeters the chance to bid for a personal singing telegram for the person of their choice, with all the proceeds going to Comic Relief.
Magnets played a sellout gig at the legendary Roundhouse in London on March 26 and have previously supported Tom Jones and performed for supermodel Elle Macpherson.
They are touring the UK in the autumn but hope to be invited back to Comic Relief again next year.
