A LANDMARK Luton building could be given a new lease of life thanks to a group of music lovers who are drawing up plans to turn it into an exciting community building.
The decaying old ABC Cinema in George Street has remained empty since its last screening on November 23 2000, but the art deco building looks set to be restored to its former glory by community trust ABC Savoy.
The group, made up of Lutonians Teressa Goodhew, Kevin Magill, Anna Rosenberg and Mariana Dimmock, aims to restore many of the architectural beauty’s original features.
Plans include turning one of the cinema’s old screens into a 450 seat 1930s/40s style cinema, while screen two is earmarked as 500 to 600 capacity music venue and the old screen three for use as a multi-purpose room to be used for music lessons and specialist events.
