BUDDING entrepreneurs put their trading skills to the test last week and more than tripled their initial investment.
The students from Luton Sixth Form College set up shop in Luton Indoor Market for Global Enterprise Week, and walked away with £2,300 profit on their investment of £680.
The teenagers are studying BTEC Level 3 Enterprise and Entrepreneurship and were divided into 17 teams, each of which had a stall for a day during the week. The four teams who made the most money then took part in a grand final on Saturday (November 19), with AK Enterprise coming out on top.
The goods on sale throughout the week included flowers, crockery, perfumes, scarves and bandanas.
Course leader Shazam Mahmood said: “At the start of the day the students would be quite nervous, and they didn’t want to approach customers.
“But by the end of the day they were totally different, able to approach people, getting sales, practising good customer service. “It was an incredibly rewarding experience and it gave them the skills and confidence that they need for the world of work.”
The money raised will be going to charities including NOAH Enterprise and the college’s Malawi book project.
