RESIDENTS in Stopsley won’t have to travel far for their Christmas shopping this year as a new gift shop opens on Saturday.
Liz Bennett and Kim Terry (pictured) have started ‘Just Us’, a brand new business selling everything from jewellery to jigsaws.
The pair don’t have any previous experience of running a shop but both love shopping and had always dreamt of opening their own gift shop.
Liz, 55 said: “Our official opening is on Saturday but we have had so much interest from local people that we are letting them come in and see what we’re about this week. We’ve had very nice comments so far.”
The local ladies will continue to work part time, Kim as a nurse and Liz as a teacher while taking it in turns to look after the shop in Hitchin Road.
Kim, 48, has lived in Stopsley all her married life and Liz is Luton born and bred.
Liz said: “We both love shopping and bargains, and Kim has been a personal shopper at Christmas before, she really loves shopping.
“It was in April when we realised we both had always thought about opening a shop, so we decided to do it.
“There’s no other gift shops in Stopsley really, and the response we have had from locals so far has been great. We were still working on the shop last week and were planning on having a grand opening on Saturday but so many people have wanted to come and have a look round we opened on Tuesday to give them a sneak preview.”
Liz said that in the current economic climate it is important to be able to find something special for someone for an attractive price, so the shop will provide a variety of good value gifts that will accommodate all the family.
