Road cash jobs boost

MORE than 13,000 new jobs could be created in Luton following government support for a £19.5million scheme to improve M1 junction 10a.

The Regional Growth Fund boost is dependent on government ministers agreeing that it meets the rules.

Worries about M1 traffic at the junction has meant the Highways Agency putting a block on development at a number of massive regeneration projects around the town.

Councillor Roy Davis, Luton Borough Council’s regeneration chief, said: “It could also help facilitate potential development at Luton Airport and unlock up to 900 jobs that could be created from the relocation of Northern & Shell’s operations for the Express newspaper group.”

Other plans include Napier Park and the retail-led town centre development of Power Court.
