A POPULAR tailor, who has worked in Hightown for 36 years, retired on Friday.
Nicola Centracchio, who owns and runs Briganti Tailoring in Hightown Road in Luton, packed up his sewing machine for the last time and closed his shop for good last week.
The 66-year-old has been a tailor for 53 years and says he is not sure what he will do now that he is retired.
Mr Centracchio said: “Everybody knows me round here. I will miss the people who come in the shop. When we work we have a joke and we talk. I’ve been off work for two or three days now and I feel a bit lonely. I think I would like to play golf.”
The father-of-three is spending the week clearing out his shop and says he will keep most of the tailoring equipment.
He said: “I will still do alterations for my family and friends. Once you know how to do the job you do it whenever you need it, a pair of trousers that need taking up or whatever. It is sad but it’s time to move on.”
