HATTERS boss Gary Brabin is set to appear in court over the fracas that saw him forcibly removed from the touchline at Bootham Crescent during Luton Town’s 1-0 defeat at York City in April, writes Mark Wood.
Two stewards were allegedly injured in the incident and he faces two charges of assault and one charge of using threatening words or behaviour.
He has been summoned to appear before Selby Magistrates’ Court by North Yorkshire Police following an investigation into the incident.
A force spokesman said: “Police investigating allegations of assault at Bootham Crescent football ground on 19 April 2011, have summonsed a 40-year-old man from Milton Keynes to appear in court.
“He is due to appear at Selby Magistrates’ Court at 11am on 9 November 2011 on two charges of assault and one of using threatening words or behaviour.”
Brabin was ordered off in that game by referee Steve Smith following a fiery exchange with York assistant manager Darron Gee.
He was then escorted down the players’ tunnel by two stewards, one of whom is alleged to have broken a finger and the other was apparently elbowed.
Speaking after the incident at the time, Brabin said: “I’m not really shouting or bawling. I’ve shown a bit of passion like most managers in this league and been punished for it.
“Their bench was showing passion and we were showing passion and I thought they were showing more than us. The referee has decided to send me off. The referee sent me off and the rest of it was a storm in a teacup.”
No-one at the club was available for comment before we went to press.
