LUTON schools are to receive an extra £3.6million in funding thanks to a new Pupil Premium.
The Pupil Premium is paid to schools based on the numbers of their pupils who qualify for free school meals. The government has announced that Luton schools have been allocated £487.55 per qualifying pupil and this gives Luton schools a total of £3,642,000 for the current financial year.
The government will not dictate how the extra funding is spent so long as it is targeted at disadvantaged children. Schools could spend it on extra staff, on one-to-one tuition or whatever they decide will be most effective.
