AN historic Luton church building has been refurbished and is on the lettings market.

The former Ceylon Baptist Church and Hall, in Adelaide Street, was built in 1848 but is known now as The Spires.

Total available space at The Spires is 19,528 sq-ft (1,814 sq-m) but this can be let on a floor by floor basis.

Paul Jessop of letting agents Lambert Smith Hampton, based in Butterfield, Great Marling, said: “This is the first time The Spires has been on the market for nearly 20 years.”

He added that The Spires had seen an internal furbishment carried out by The Houghton Regis-based Chamberlain Group.

Features at The Spires include secure basement car parking for 25 vehicles.

The block has basement, ground and three upper floors.

There are also raised floors, perimeter trunking and category II lighting, all within a working environment which has retained many of the building’s historic features such as stained glass windows, exposed timber and stonework and vaulted ceilings.

The property also has gas fired central heating and an eight-person passenger lift.

Mr Jessop added: “The building lends itself to lettings of individual floors from 5,027 sq ft through to the whole building of 19,528 sq ft and is likely to appeal to a wide variety of occupiers looking for accommodation which offers some character whilst fulfilling the needs of modern business.”

Lambert Smith Hampton is marketing the property far and wide. It is conveniently located within walking distance of the town centre amenities.

Nearby businesses include BBC Three Counties Radio, The Probation Service, Luton Magistrates Court and Icon Hotel.

The accommodation which has a rateable value of £123,000 is available by way of a new full repairing and insuring lease for a term to be agreed, subject to periodic rent review.
